What is the Employment Insurance System (EIS)?

The Employment Insurance System (EIS) was first implemented in January 2018 as a social security network aimed at helping workers who lost their jobs for financial assistance and seeking new jobs.


1. Employer & Employee Contribution

All private sector employers need to pay monthly contributions for each employee. Civil servants, domestic servants and people who are self-employed are exempted. All employees aged 18 years to 60 years old have to contribute except for employees aged 57 years and above who have never contributed before reaching 57 years of age.

2. Contribution Rates

The contribution rate for EIS is ~0.2% of the employer's share and ~0.2% of employee's share of the employee's monthly salary. The contribution rate is capped at a monthly salary of RM 4,000.00. You may refer to the contribution table below for more information:

3. EIS Payment

If it's the first time you contribute EIS for your employees you need to register, see this article to learn how to register for EIS. Currently online payments are not possible, follow these steps to make payment. Later this year payments for EIS should be possible via Perkeso's Assist Portal, to register follow these steps.
